Project management certifications

The project management program certifications also know as project management  professionals , are the credentials offered by “ the Project  Management Institute “ to those who pass the certification examination . On the 31 of March 2010 , the active number of project managers who have project management certifications was 375.959 , worldwide . 

To obtain your project management certifications you must obtain the documentation between three to five years of experience , working in project management , complete a 35 hours  training related to project management and to score the necessary percentage on a multiple choice written examination .

Here are the six performance domains you must focus on and the percentage necessary:

1. Social and professional responsibility ( 9% )

2. Closing the project ( 9% )

3. Initiating the project ( 10% )

4. Controlling and monitoring the project ( 21% )

5. Planning the project ( 23% )

6. Executing the project ( 27% )

The exam is made out of 200 multiple choice questions based on those performance domains , and the percentage represent the number of questions from each domain .

  What is the purpose of the project management certifications ?

Well most employers , such as commercial , government or other organizations , want to hire people who they know they are up to the task , in order for them to increase to success rate of their projects in order for them to cut down on their budget loss . Therefor they applied an evolving standard for the principles of project management based on the PMBOK guide .

People who undertake the path of pursuing a career as a project manager , must obtain their project management certifications  in order for the employer to verify their abilities as a project manager for a certain project . This is a good method for the self-employed project managers sell their services .

The examination process for project management certifications is provided as a computer-based test , monitored by the Prometric testing centers with the help of the global network . If you live in an area where there are no Prometric testing  centers nearby , you have the option of a paper-based examination . Those who take the examination computer-based, receive their result , right after completion however the results for the paper-based examination will be received within four weeks time .

There are a few pre-requisites , that you must have , in order for you to be eligible to take your examination for the project management certifications :

-High school diploma with 7,500 hours or 60 months , related to project management 

-or a bachelor`s degree with 4,500 hours or 36 months , related to project management

The project management certifications exam , comes in twelve different languages , such as : Spanish , Chinese ( simplified or traditional ) , English , Arabic , German , French , Hebrew , Korean , Japanese , Russian , Italian and French .
